Getting Here, Hotels & Car Rental
Flying into Puerto Rico:
By Plane: Use your favorite
airline to fly into Luis Munoz Marin
International Airport (SJU) located
in the Metropolitan Area. A second
and third option is to fly into
Mercedita Airport in Ponce or
Aguadilla International in the west
coast, however, these two airports
are located at least 65 miles away
from San Juan, and therefore,
logistically not as convenient.
Passports are not required for US
Citizens travelling from the United
States. If you are flying in from
other destinations you need to
contact your local travel agent for
details on the requirements to enter
Puerto Rico. You can also search for
the official entry requirements from
the United States State Department.
Going
to Old San Juan: From the
airport we strongly recommend the
use of a Taxi. These white colored
vehicles are located in the airport
and are staffed with bilingual
drivers. Nearby main tourist areas
are Isla Verde, Condado and Old San
Juan. It should cost your around $19
from the airport to Old San Juan
plus a few extra dollars for bike
box and/or extra luggage transport.
Late night service also has an extra
nominal surcharge.
Hotels: Since the Tour will
depart from Old San Juan, we
strongly encourage visitors to book
rooms in theofficial LCTHQ hotel
located within Old San Juan, the
Sheraton Old San Juan. Keep in mind
that the LCTHQ Hotel is located
within a reasonable walking distance
from the start and finish of the
Tour and it is therefore most
convenient for you to stay nearby.
Car Rental: Arrangements for
those travelling from abroad are
being made with a local car rental
company that has free hotel
transportation and a competitive
fee. Once you have rented the car,
the staff of the car rental agency
will direct you on how to best reach
your hotel.
Hotel
Information and Instructions:
The following hotels listed below
are the hotels that will be serviced
by the staff of the Lighthouse
Cycling Tour of Puerto Rico. This
means that in San Juan, we will be
picking up your bags the morning of
February 6 and dropping them off in
your hotel of Ponce that morning and
Mayaguez the following day based on
the listing below. The last day, all
bags will be dropped off at the
grounds of the San Felipe del Morro
Fort where you will then claim them
before heading to your hotel.
In an effort to enhance your
experience in Puerto Rico, we are
recommending a series of hotels in
Old San Juan, Ponce and Mayaguez.
The hotels of Ponce and Mayaguez
designated as Headquarter Hotels are
those from where the tour will
start. If you choose to stay at
another location, allow yourself
extra time to
ride into the departing Headquarter
Hotel at the designated start time.
Our staff will pick up and deliver
your luggage (remember the 50 lbs
maximum weight!!) from one of the
listed hotels to the other.
It
is the responsibility of the
participating rider to label his/her
luggage with your name and hotel
names in order to guarantee its
accurate delivery. If a rider fails
to include the hotel destination
name, the luggage will be
automatically delivered to the
Headquarter Hotel of the day where
you will have to make your
arrangements for pick up. Our
luggage staff will make all
deliveries early in the mornings as
you are riding and will not be
available when you arrive later in
the afternoon. We have selected
hotels for every budget and we are
sure you will enjoy your stay.

Best bang for the buck!!. Located in the heart of Old San Juan. Above legendary café teatro “The Nuyorican Café.” Eclectic. Visually Stunning. Reminiscent of the character of hostals in European cities. Art scattered in everyfloor. Definitely memorable. Surely trendy. As for amenities… Nope, No TV in the room. But who wants to watch TV when he or she is staying at such visually stimulating location? Nope, no elevators either. Exercise is great, no? Some noise due to the famous salsa club right next to it. Cultural immersion. Worth to put up with, believe me. Silicone earplugs do the trick. Oh yes, a beautiful rooftop hot tub awaits with a spectacular Old San Juan view. For the adventurous. Breakfast not included however, the experience of having breakfast with the locals at la Bombonera, La Mallorca or el Siglo XX is "indispensable". Storage space for bike boxes will be provided free of charge. |
